We heard with sorrow the recent news of The Rt. Rev. Jane Holmes Dixon’s passing on Christmas Day, December 25, 2012.

From the website of the Diocese of Washington: “Early in the morning on Christmas Day, the Rt. Rev. Jane Holmes Dixon, former Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of Washington, died in her sleep. Bishop Dixon was the second woman bishop in both the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion. Before being elected, Bishop Dixon was the rector of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel, Maryland. Her funeral was held on January 5, 2013 in Washington National Cathedral, attended by her family, friends, and many others who both loved and respected her, or [whose] lives she had touched.”

Board member Susan Stonesifer writes, “I had the joy today of attending Bishop Dixon’s memorial service. I believe there should be a link on the Cathedral’s website to view the service.  I highly recommend it.”
